Hosszúpályi

The origin of the settlement’s present-day coat of arms goes back to the village’s wax seal of the 18th-19th centuries.

Shield erect, central field is rectangular, on the dexter and sinister sides it is curved, beneath it is curved to a point. The central charges in the settlement’s coat of arms depict plants and animals. In base a circular escutcheon with the charge of a scythe borne in it. Escutcheon is surrounded by stylised leaves and circles of different sizes. Above a stag’s antlers are borne symmetrically issuing from a helm motif.

On the top a bunch of corn is borne.

The village can boast 800 year-long history. It is located in hajdú-Bihar County, at a distance of 18 kilometres from Debrecen, the county seat. Hosszúpályi’ inhabitants live from agriculture. A popular place int he vicinity of the village is the recreation area of Messzelátó-Sóstó.

There are several historical building sin the village including the Roman cathoilc church, the calvinist church, the Greek orthodox church and several buildings which used to belong to the members of the Zichy family. The folk art centre of Hosszúpályi opened in 1986.
